Undergraduate Medical EducationWelcome and thank you for your interest in the clinical education program at Nassau University Medical Center. We provide excellent, broad-based clinical experience at our large teaching hospital. Founded in 1935, NUMC serves as a major teaching campus of the Health Science Center of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and the American University of the Caribbean. With a staff of over 3,400, NUMC serves as a center for learning and encourages research and innovation in medicine and health care practices. The mission of the Department of Academic Affairs/Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) is to ensure medical schools and students rotating to Nassau University Medical Center that the receive high quality clinical education and that we enforce the acquisition of knowledge, skills and behaviors that will lead to the successful completion of their undergraduate medical education. Our mission is to enhance students to become capable, compassionate health care providers. We accomplish this mission by maintaining a rigorous curriculum, closely monitoring each student's progress, and preparing students for the next phase of their training. Nassau University Medical Center sponsors seventeen ACGME/AOA accredited residencies and fellowships and has a large full-time faculty and a committed resident staff. The institution provides a scholarly milieu in which students interact with an exciting mix of learners and teachers from all health professions. The Academic Affairs/Undergraduate Medical Education Office ensures that the affiliate medical schools' standards are met and that the clinical education is consistent with LCME and AOA requirement for clinical teaching sites. This oversight requires close coordination with all of our clinical departments and faculty in developing policies and reviewing the educational efforts. This website is designed to provide you with in-depth information regarding eligibility requirements and clinical opportunities. We invite you to consider the opportunities at NUMC. Best wishes in your work and learning here at NUMC. Sincerely, Robert Yost, MS, Dean Kathryn M. Lane, EdD, DIO Academic Affairs Department |
